European Union calls for proposals to fund Health-related research!
European Union funds research mainly through the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (FP7), which will run from 2007-2013.
The key objectives of the FP7 Health Theme are to improve the health of European citizens, to boost the competitiveness of health-related industries, and to address global health issues. EC will fund the Health-related research with €682 million through the 2011 calls.
Two main calls for proposals have been published on 20 July 2010: one for single-stage submission with a closing date on 10th November 2010 and one for two-stage submission with a closing date on 13th October 2010 (for the 1st stage). For the 2nd stage of the two-stage call, applicants should be notified of the outcome by 10th December and the successful ones will have 2 months to prepare a full application. The evaluation process is expected to end in April 2011.
Beyond the eligibility criteria of a minimum of 3 partners from 3 different European countries, the size and composition of the consortium is left entirely up to the applicants. It means that there is the possibility of involving partners from any part of the world and in the African case with EU funding. Also beyond the basic rules stipulating that all participants must be legal entities, there are no special conditions regarding the types of organisations or their geographical location, except when this is expressly stipulated in the topic description.
Therefore African scientists are encouraged to make use of the regional and local contact points (RCPs & LCPs) to find funding opportunities through FP7 and to seek partners!
